Carry on? Pah! I’m racing on. Today? I’m trying to gain ground identifying the ugly baby’s look and feel. For the ugly baby to be all it can be, I need to be certain I’ve pictured its every last inch of potential. ::Jumps headfirst into details, starts drowning:: How on earth do you make these decisions?
You kind people, providers of magical realms of inspiration photos, you’ve done well. I thank you.
1) Sorting party
Idea photo files are getting chucked, light speed, into 5 desktop folders (as per my apartment-value-adding math):
- Kitchen
- Bathroom
- Floor
- Walls
- and ‘maybe later’
I’m concentrating on these things only – a natural alternative to ritalin. I need fewer distractions and far fewer decisions. Wherever I can simplify and move on, that’s good. And that’s a very difficult thing for this human magpie. Ooooh shinyyy! … What was I saying?
2) Decision-making 101
- Lay out my top, top photos.
- Short-list quality material only.
- Take deep breaths and deal with my unrequited love.
- Wince as I delete the not-quite-suitable or not-quite-perfect.
3) Involve the disinterested
Paolo can be kept interested in house photos for up to 15 minutes; a narrow window. To capitalize, I printed thumbnail sheets of fave idea photos (using Picasa) and was ready with the red pen. We agreed on everything, to our utter amazement. Circled faves and crossed out the dross.
Look & feel? Done. Light, bright, happy and clean. I don’t know the design terms but, in effect, we want a sunny apartment in a city that’s not.
Cross that decision off the list. Onwards!
